Innovative Initiatives

Management Information System (MIS): Overview

Jal Board has been undertaking various innovative steps to provide efficient services to the residents of Assam. One of the primary steps is the MIS (Management Information System) framework designed and spatially enabled by Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water & Sewerage Board (GMDW&SB). The framework is a modern, user-friendly system which can manage virtually any kind of asset or resource subsequently helping its own department’s inventory.

Merits of the system

Unique functionality in GMDW&SB's management system includes semantic ontology, graph database, fast elastic search, mobile data collection and updating as well as other built-in mechanisms to enforce data standards. This system also supports full GIS mapping functionality.

Perhaps the most useful aspect of the GIS at GMDW&SB is its ability to allow its users to proactively assess and circumvent potential problems across a projects vast network of assets. Particular procedures have been built into the system to ensure that assets are regularly and appropriately assessed.
